On 1992 the Standardization and Metrology Federal Law opened the possibility, as other countries worldwide, for creating private bodies to standardization and conformity assessment, activities previously done by the Secretaría de Comercio y Fomento Industrial (SECOFI) now denominated Secretaría de Economía (SE).
