NYCE (Spanish acronym for Electronics Standardization and Certification), is a non-profit civil association created in November of 1994 by a group of leading companies from the Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies sectors in Mexico.
NYCE was born under the Metrology and Standardization Federal Law (LFMN for its Spanish acronym) which by being promulgated in 1992, opened the possibility of having formed in Mexico, as in other countries worldwide, private bodies engaged with standardization, certification and verification activities, which in the past were only carried out by government dependencies.
Based upon the above mentioned Law, NYCE is accredited and authorized by legal instances and corresponding Federal Government dependencies, and forms part of the National Metrology, Standardization and Conformity Assessment System (SISMENEC for its Spanish acronym).
This system is integrated by third-party conformity assessment bodies for standardization, products and systems certification, personnel certification, for verification, testing, metrology and accreditation, as well as those dependencies that according to the LFMN itself should engage on such matters.
Coordination of the SISMENEC (Spanish acronym for National Metrology, Standardization and Conformity Assessment System) is administered by the Sub-Secretariat of the State Department of Economy for Regulations, Foreign Investment and International Business Practices, through the General Administration for Standards (DGN for its Spanish acronym).
